Snapdragon X Elite has moved Googlebook from a May preview into the first preorder machines. The change is practical: Google and Qualcomm now name Dell and HP designs as the first Googlebook laptops available to order, while Google is also telling Android developers how to adapt apps for the new laptop class.

[Qualcomm published the Snapdragon X Elite announcement on 21 September](https://www.qualcomm.com/news/releases/2026/09/snapdragon-x-series-powers-googlebook--the-first-laptops-designe?ref=eazzytechnews.ghost.io); [its official Markdown mirror preserves the same announcement text](https://www.qualcomm.com/news/releases/2026/09/snapdragon-x-series-powers-googlebook--the-first-laptops-designe.md?ref=eazzytechnews.ghost.io). [Google followed on 22 September with developer guidance](https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2026/09/adaptive-development-scale-app-googlebook.html?ref=eazzytechnews.ghost.io) for larger screens, desktop windowing and Google Play placement. Together, the updates turn Googlebook from a concept into a platform that hardware makers and app teams have to prepare for.

## What is new since Google's first preview?

[Google introduced Googlebook in May](https://blog.google/products-and-platforms/platforms/android/meet-googlebook/?ref=eazzytechnews.ghost.io) as a laptop category built around Gemini Intelligence, Android apps and close phone integration. That older preview described features such as Magic Pointer, custom widgets, phone-file access and a light strip called the glowbar. It also named Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo as hardware partners.

The September update narrows the first wave. Qualcomm says Dell and HP Googlebook designs powered by Snapdragon X Elite are available for preorder. Its press note says the machines pair Gemini features with native Android apps, Snapdragon neural processing unit (NPU) capabilities, all-day battery-life claims and cross-device Android experiences.

That matters because the chip decision shapes the early software target. Snapdragon X Elite is an Arm-based laptop platform, so developers and buyers should treat the first Googlebooks as Android-connected AI laptops rather than ordinary Chromebooks with a new badge.

## What should developers change?

Google's developer post gives the clearest near-term signal. It says Googlebook runs Android apps in a laptop environment with free-form windows, keyboards, trackpads and larger displays. Google Play will highlight optimized titles with dedicated badging, enhanced search and featured placement.

The recommended work is not a separate Googlebook-only app. Google points developers toward adaptive Android layouts, window size classes, multi-pane interfaces, keyboard shortcuts, hover states, right-click menus, drag and drop, multi-instance support and custom window frames. For teams already building tablet and foldable interfaces, Googlebook becomes another large-screen target; for phone-only apps, it is a pressure test.

- **Hardware:** first Dell and HP Googlebook designs use Snapdragon X Elite, according to Qualcomm.
- **Software:** Google wants Android apps to behave like desktop apps when the window is large enough.
- **Distribution:** Google Play visibility becomes part of the incentive for optimized apps.

## What remains unproven?

The official claims are still vendor claims. Qualcomm says the platform delivers powerful performance, efficiency and AI capabilities, while Google says adaptive apps can reach richer laptop workflows. Neither source supplies independent benchmarks for the first Dell and HP models, preorder volumes or measured developer adoption.

The lineup also has brand complexity. Googlebook pulls together Android, ChromeOS-era laptop expectations, Gemini services, Snapdragon silicon and original-equipment-manufacturer hardware. Dell and HP are the first named preorder partners, but Google's May product article still lists Acer, ASUS and Lenovo as part of the wider planned family. Image reuse was checked against [Google's Press Corner image library](https://blog.google/image-library/?ref=eazzytechnews.ghost.io).

The useful takeaway is therefore specific. Googlebook is no longer only a May teaser. The first Snapdragon X Elite machines are entering preorder, and Google is asking Android developers to prepare laptop-class app behavior before the devices reach buyers. The next evidence to watch is direct device pricing, independent battery and performance tests, and whether major Android apps earn the optimized treatment Google is promoting.
